301) Flex System Manager (FSM) / Re: ESXi host failed to go into Maintenance Mode
« on: September 30, 2013, 12:36:19 PM »
Okay I figured it out.

It was because my vCenter server was not being managed by the FSM. Once I discovered and ran inventory on it I was able to successfully relocate virtual machines and put the host into maintenance mode.

302) Flex System Manager (FSM) / ESXi host failed to go into Maintenance Mode
« on: September 30, 2013, 10:17:28 AM »
Hi all,

I'm trying to use the relocation plans to put an ESXi host in maintenance mode. I had it working before but now all of a sudden it is failing. In the error log it says "Controlling platform manager not found for target GVICESXi03"

Any ideas??

Thanks!

Just a quick update.

After applying this update I was able to update the Ethernet module IPs! 8)

Hello All,

Just recieved this new firmware package from IBM support.

IBM Chassis Management Module (CMM) Firmware v1.50.0D [2PET12] GA4 [ES].

http://www-933.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/systemx/selectFix?product=ibm%2Fsystemx%2F7893&fixids=ibm_fw_cmm_2pet12d-1.50.0d_anyos_noarch&source=dbluesearch&function=fixId&parent=Enterprise%20Chassis

NOTE: You MUST have FSM code at version 1.2.1 or LATER to update the CMM firmware to v1.50.0D.

Hello Brands1284,

Try this, we recently received this action plan from IBM Support as a workaround.

Happy FSMing!  ;)
=========================================================
To change the SMIA user ID and password, complete the
following steps:

1.  Open a management software CLI prompt and log in.

2.  Use the rmdatasource command to remove the switch from Storage
Control management, as shown in the following example.
Note: This example does not show all of the possible options for the
rmdatasource command. For more information about the command, see
    rmdatasource.

    smcli rmdatasource -t https -i <IP_address> -p <port_number>

where <IP_address> and <port_number> are the IP address and port of
    the switch.

3.  Log in to the management software web interface.

4.  From the Home page, click the Applications tab.

5.  Under SMIA Configuration Tool, click Launch administration
console. The SMIA administration console window opens.

    Note:

     a.  If this is the first time you launch the tool, you
must download it before you can use it. If necessary, confirm
the browser security exceptions, and the application
         downloads.

     b.  The SMIA Configuration Tool is a component
of IBM? Network Advisor. The download progress window and
         other interface elements might
be labeled as IBM Network Advisor, but the SMIA Configuration
Tool provides only a subset of full Network Advisor
         functionality.

6. Log in to the console; then, use the console to change the
   administrator user ID and password.

Important: If this is the first time you launch the tool, you must
change the default protocol setting from HTTP to HTTPS after you log
in. The IBM Flex System FC5022 16Gb SAN Switch supports only HTTP
Secure (HTTPS), but the default protocol for the SMIA Configuration
   Tool is HTTP.

Note: If you cannot log in to the SMIA Configuration Tool, see
    Troubleshooting the SMIA Configuration Tool.

7.  From the management software CLI prompt, use the mkdatasource
command to reestablish management of the switch, as shown in the
    following example.

Note: This example does not show all of the possible options for the
mkdatasource command. For more information about the command, see
    mkdatasource.

smcli -user USERID -pw Passw0rd mkdatasource -c fabric -i
    <IP_address> -t https -p 25989 -u USERID -w Passw0rd -n /interop

where <IP_address> is the IP address of the management node.
Note: Port 25989 is the default port number of the SMIA
    Configuration Tool.

« on: September 04, 2013, 01:17:32 PM »
Welcome to the board!

I had a similar issue and did the following.

First ensure that the CMM firmware is current.

Next I ran inverntory on the CMM from the COMMAND LINE. Never trust a GUI  ;D.

Use this command-
USERID@gvicfsm:~> smcli collectinv -v -p "All Inventory" -i <your CMM IP>
Inventory collection percentage 0%
Inventory collection percentage 35%
Inventory collection percentage 36%
Inventory collection percentage 38%
Inventory collection percentage 69%
Inventory collection percentage 86%
Inventory collection percentage 93%
Inventory collection completed:
100%

Let me know your outcome!!

307) Chassis Management Module (CMM) / Re: Can't Update Ethernet Switch IPs from CMM
« on: August 22, 2013, 01:44:56 PM »
First thing I tried  ;).

I'm thinking because I had a previous configuration on the switches that this could be causing some of my issues. I'm not a networking guy or I might have a better idea what the solution would be.

I have just opened a PMR with IBM so I will repost when they have given me a solution.

Thanks, Brands!

308) Chassis Management Module (CMM) / Can't Update Ethernet Switch IPs from CMM
« on: August 22, 2013, 01:40:54 PM »
Hello,

Has anyone had an issue updating their ethernet switch modules via the CMM? I recently reset my CMM to defaults after an FSM rebuild and now the ethernet switches do not want to reapply their old IP.

NOTE: All other components can change their IPS no problem including SAN switches.

Please Help!   :)

Hello Dan!

Welcome to the site. What is your involvement with PureSystems? I'm hoping to start gaining some more valuable techies to contribute once more of these systems are rolled out.

Thanks!
