VMControl does not see my image repository / repositories
« on: October 27, 2014, 04:15:16 PM »
Has anyone else had VMcontrol forget where the image repositories are?  Usually I do an invntory on my VIOs and it shows up again, but not this time.  Anybody have any hints on what else I can do?  (Google was no help today....)

Hi Eric,

Have you tried to remove and add back your VIOS servers? Also I'm fairly certain you need to inventory the OS MEP (managed end point) and not the Virtual Server MEP. Can you confirm thats how you ran the inventory? Also, make sure your OS MEP is unlocked using the padmin user. Let me know!

I'm not certain what you mean by "remove" and "add back" your vios servers.  I know how to "unmanage" a blade :-)  And that's been done already, followed by a manage or find command to add it back to the chassis.

I've also inventoried both the blade AND the vio on the blade.

Hi Eric,

By "remove" I mean remove the VIOS OS/Virtual Server MEP from the FSMs known list of managed endpoints. Once removed you can use Discovery Manager to search by the IP and find it again. Then gain access using padmin and you should be able to run inventory and find your VIOS repositories.

Thanks!

OK, so the next question is, How do I do that?  Which set of menus do I follow to unmanage an endpoint, because,, sadly enough, I'm not finding it :-(

No problem, its not too bad.

1) Go to Resource Explorer and choose 'All Systems'
2) Search for or find your OS/Virtual server MEP for you VIOS server.
3) Now select them both
4) From 'Actions' choose 'Remove' (This will remove them from the FSMs management clearing any reference to it from the FSMs database)
5) Now you need to Discover them again. Go to 'Discovery Manager' and enter the IP for the VIOS server
6) When it finds it, gain access using padmin
7) Now try to run your inventory and check the logs for your VIO repositories.

Let me know if that works for you, if not we'll have to keep digging or possibly open a ticket with IBM.
