Smart Cloud Entry
« on: July 02, 2014, 12:06:57 AM »
Hello.

I have a virtual environment already set up by fsm on Power (p460 node).
How do I get all the virtual hosts in SCE?

Regards

Sashi,

From my experience there is no way to pull in existing virtual servers from the power side. In my testing it has only shown me servers that were actually deployed WITHIN SmartCloud Entry. VMWare, however, pulls in all of the virtual machines so this would be a good ticket to open with IBM because we are also curious why SmartCloud doesn't do an "inventory" of the Power infrastructure.

Thanks!!

Okay, after a bit of messing about and testing I was able to figure out how to get the Virtual machines (Power) in SCE

Steps are:
1. On the FSM:
- Home --> Plugins ---> VMControl Enterprise Edition
Click on Workloads TAB, then "Group as Workload" Button

Note you can groups the workloads together, But I have created individual ones for each virtual hosts, which means I can control them individually form SCE later (Stop and start)

Follow your nose to create these workloads, once done refresh the window or go all the way back to plugins and click on VMControl again.
Go back to Workloads TAB and the click on "workloads and members" link you will then see all the vhosts etc. etc.

Stop and start you SCE to refresh

Click on "Instances" TAB to see the virtual hosts

Cheers
Hope this helps
