VMware Support / Re: Packet Drops on DOWN VMNIC
« Last post by PureSystemsTech on October 12, 2016, 11:27:42 AM »
Hi Stephen,

Good morning, thanks for the question. No unfortunately we never got a solid answer on what this was happening. We believe it was a hardware/firmware issue with the Emulex adapter but neither IBM or VMware took credit for being the root cause of the problem. We began to ignore the issue since we know those VMnics are down.

Hello - Did you ever find out what the cause of this issue was? I am having almost the exact same thing happen to me with some HS23 systems running 5.5

Thanks

Chassis Networking / Re: vPC creation between Cisco N7K and SI4093
« Last post by PureSystemsTech on September 08, 2016, 04:40:14 PM »
Hi Farhan,

Thank you for your post. Here is a document for the users guide for the SI4093, in it there is a discussion about setting up a trunk.

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/flexsys/information/topic/com.lenovo.acc.si4093pt.doc/00cg189.pdf

From the document:
"Trunk groups are also useful for connecting a SI4093 to IBM switches and
third-party devices that support link aggregation, such as Cisco routers and
switches with EtherChannel technology (not ISL trunking technology) and Sun's
Quad Fast Ethernet Adapter."

Since this switches are essentially passthrough switches where you create a SPAR (which is essentially a logical configuration combined INT or internal ports to EXT or external ports) there does not appear to be a way to "stack" these switches since they have little to no intelligence built in. If you would like to stack the switches that would require the EN4093 switch which has an almost identical command set and functionality set to Cisco when you configure it to use the ISCLI (Industry Standard Command Line Interface).

Keep in mind also that the SI4093 can be tricky to configure although the marketing material would tell you otherwise. I have seen this switch deployed at only one customer, the rest have had the EN4093. I do not want to deter you from your solution but simply warn you that it may not be as easy as it seems. There are a few posts on issues that have been seen here in the MyPureSupport community so if you do hit a snag do a search and see if you find some answers, otherwise post again. :)

Thanks!

Chassis Networking / vPC creation between Cisco N7K and SI4093
« Last post by farhan.engr on September 08, 2016, 02:33:19 PM »
Dear Members,

We have proposed IBM Pure Flex Chassis to a customer along with Flex System Fabric SI4093 System Interconnect Module (Part Number: 00FM518). On its external 10 GbE ports, we will insert Lenovo 10GBASE-SR SFP+ Transceiver (Part Number: 46C3447) and Lenovo 1000BASE-SX SFP Transceiver (Part Number: 81Y1622).

The customer has a Nexus 7000 Core Switch and they need to create vPC between Cisco N7K and Lenovo SI4093 Switch (on the above mentioned transceivers).

We need to know if this could be achieved. If yes, what will be the procedure to do it? Do we need extra components or license to achieve this solution?

One additional question which my customer has asked and I have no clue to it. Does SI4093 support stacking? If Stacking is not supported will affect creation of vPC/vLAG on SI4093?

A document link indicating this functionality will be really beneficial.

Regards,
Farhan.

Hi Mathew,

Yes this has happened to us as well after running for about a year and a half we suddenly lost the whole server.

Thanks,

Hello,

Anyone have information about hardware problems on P460?
We had identical failures on multiple nodes 7895 43X that required changing the motherboard.

There would be a bad series?

Thanks

I have tried to sign in your account name Administrator/password but it is not ok.
And:
USERID@FSM-6CAE8B7C5EFA:~> smcli rmdatasource -c fabric -t https -i 10.50.127.104 -p 25989
Removing data source ...
DNZSAL236E : No CIMOM fabric data source was found in the IBM Flex System Manager Storage Control server. Verify that the IP address, protocol, and port are valid.

Thanks!

Chassis Networking / SPAR Configuration
« Last post by karlochacon on February 25, 2016, 03:26:45 PM »
hi guys

I just know the basis about nortel-IO-Lenovo..., I just learned how to configure VLANs for these IOs....

Now since we have this chassis which already has 2 servers INTA1-INTA2 using EXT1-EXT2, now we have a new customer and we want to reuse this chassis and not buying a new one.... so I've been reading about this SPAR feature but I am not sure how to configure it...

this new customer will be using servers in INTA3..INTA6 and EXT3-EXT6 for each IO....

right now there is no SPAR, someone configured this chassis as usual but now we need to separate this and SPAR looks the way to go....
but I am not sure if doing this will need a maintenance window
and second I am not sure about the configuration for this....

has someone has a basic SPAR configuration I can follow?

BTW the IO is: IBM Flex System EN2092 1Gb Ethernet Scalable Switch which supports SPAR

thanks a lot

No, that was so long ago.  I've got nothing in my personal notes indicating anything either.  Darn it.

Hi Eric,

Do you know if any maintenance activities (upgrades, adding LDAP, etc..) were performed on the FSM during the time ranger you reference?

Thanks,
