FSM SETUP - DISABLE VLAN TAGGING on NETWORK SWITCH-PORT
« on: May 02, 2014, 11:08:58 AM »
All,

I recently had a issue during an FSM install. For 3 days we could not get networking on ETH1. The first vendor had given up and used a single network for data and management using ETH0 which routes through the CMM. However, this networking schema does not allow the FSM to use a 10GB network but more importantly it does not allow for management deeper into the systems and some more of the advanced functions that the FSM provides.

To make a long story short I worked with support for those 3 long days and it was determined by LEVEL 3 (product engineers) that we had a bad NIC and requested a replacement. I had brought my own FSM with me and after a rebuild of that it was still having the issue so I dug further and noticed that VLAN tagging was enabled for the internal switch-port INTA1. THIS IS NOT CORRECT!!

Since the FSM setup does not allow for configuration of a VLAN you must have VLAN tagging DISABLED and the customers VLAN defined on the switch-port the FSM is on (in my case INTA1). Once disabled we were able to get network immediately and ping the customers gateway.

WHAT A NIGHTMARE.  >:(

Hello,

I have encounter the same issue.
I disabled vlan tagging on INTA1 (FSM port) and defined default VLAN to 18.
So in the config, i have :
Code: [Select]
interface port INTA1
switchport access vlan 18
exit
!
But i still can't ping the network and acces to the FSM Browser from the LAN of the customer.

Any idea ?

Do you have the FSM set to "Seperate networks for data and management" and set the management IPv4 address on ETH1 on the FSM initial configuration?

Also, did you try setting the FSM VLAN to 1 and then set VLAN 18 on the EXT ports that uplink to the core?

Thanks!

I have seperated networks : Data and Management

eth1 is configured as : IP=10.18.0.10/24, GW=10.18.0.254
This GW is a ip interface defined on the switch which is communicating with the external network through the VLAN 18.

On the interface INTA1, i have this config :
Code: [Select]
interface port INTA1
        switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan 1, 18
        exit
!
That's the same network config defined on the others ports (for ESX and Oracle Servers) and it works for them!!

I have also try to set default vlan to 1 as you said but still nothing.

Where am wrong ?

Thanks !

Have you tried just defining VLAN 18.

switchport trunk native VLAN 18
switchport trunk allowed VLAN 18

I have tried it ! Now i can ping the FSM through the switch (EN 4093R) :
Code: [Select]
ping 10.18.0.10 DATA.
But i still cannot ping it from outside (LAN)

Finally got it !!!!

I specified the gateway with the command on FSM :
Code: [Select]
chnetcfg -s add --route-type Default -i any --gateway 10.18.0.1
And now it's good !!
Thanks for your help !!
Really appreciate !
