I spoke with a few members of our team from the power side of the house. Each one reach the same conclusion stating that the mksysb image you have is actually relatively small. They said that typically for our customers their mksysb's for their VIOS servers are around 10 GB and that's with keeping the VIOS servers clean and not junked up.
Here are verbatim some comments.
"My mksysbs at <customer> are around 10GB right now"
"I agree. Large VIOS mksysbs are usually due to the repository being included, but they've got that covered in exclude.rootvg."
"Here is my take on it..VIO Backups are usually 5GB. If they are larger it is because of some files such as install files etc that are being included. It is good to clean them up or exclude them."
