x222 FC5024D Workaround for Brocade FC HBAs
« on: February 14, 2014, 11:35:35 AM »

I am starting this topic to help resolve issues where customers who have FC5024D Brocade HBAs cannot see their Fiber channel cards as seen in this article from IBM. http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/docdisplay?lndocid=MIGR-5093606

The issue with the install is as follows -

/tmp # esxcli software vib install -d  /vmfs/volumes/ce3386e5-354470c2-7e12-3de350a4a459/tmp/BCD-bfa-
 Could not download from depot at zip:/vmfs/volumes/ce3386e5-354470c2-7e12-3de350a4a459/tmp/BCD-bfa-, skipping (('zip:/vmfs/volumes/ce3386e5-354470c2-7e12-3de350a4a459/tmp/BCD-bfa-', '', "Error extracting index.xml from /vmfs/volumes/ce3386e5-354470c2-7e12-3de350a4a459/tmp/BCD-bfa- [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/vmfs/volumes/ce3386e5-354470c2-7e12-3de350a4a459/tmp/BCD-bfa-'"))
        url = zip:/vmfs/volumes/ce3386e5-354470c2-7e12-3de350a4a459/tmp/BCD-bfa-
 Please refer to the log file for more details.

We resolved this error after calling VMware support who gave the correct filepath structure to apply the update. Also, please note that we unzipped the file and used the offline bundle zip file contained within the downloaded zip package -

/tmp/BCD-bfa- # esxcli software vib install -d /tmp/BCD-bfa-
Installation Result
   Message: The update completed successfully, but the system needs to be rebooted for the changes to be effective.
   Reboot Required: true
   VIBs Installed: Brocade_bootbank_scsi-bfa_3.2.3.0-1OEM.500.0.0.472560
   VIBs Removed: Brocade_bootbank_scsi-bfa_3.2.0.0-1OEM.500.0.0.472560
   VIBs Skipped:

Please reply to this post if you are still having issues with the install.

Thanks!  8)
