issue port 10Gb on Switch 1Gb EN2092
« on: April 07, 2014, 01:25:54 PM »
Hello,
I come to you because I have a problem with ports 10Gb on switch 1Gb EN2093.
on his paper they say that a license needed to activate, when I looked in the interface of CMM, I see that it is already activated.
but on ESXi I do not see these 10Gb ports.
and when I disconnected the RJ45 cables that are connected to the 1Gb ports and let just connected fiber 10Gb ports on the communication does not pass.
Thank you for your help

Hello Gatta,

I don't think there is as much an issue as you were misled about the 10GBe ports. See the information below. It appears that the internal switch ports remain at 1 GBe even if all of the licenses are activated. The last license key looks to enable 4x10GBe EXTERNAL ports not INTERNAL.

The part numbers for the upgrades, 90Y3562 and 49Y4298, include the following items:
    Feature on Demand Activation Flyer
    Upgrade activation key

The base switch and upgrades are as follows:
      49Y4294 is the part number for the physical device and comes with 14 internal 1 GbE ports enabled,
     one to each compute node and ten external 1 GbE ports enabled to connect to a top-of-rack switch or
     other 1 GbE devices. All external 1 GbE ports have RJ-45 connectors.
      90Y3562 (Upgrade 1) can be applied on the base switch to take full advantage of four-port adapter
     cards installed in each compute node. This upgrade enables 14 additional internal ports, for a total of
     28 ports. The upgrade also enables 10 additional external 1 GbE ports for a total of twenty 1 GbE
     uplinks. This upgrade requires the base switch.
     49Y4298 (10Gb Uplinks or Upgrade 2) can be applied on the base switch when you need more uplink
     bandwidth. The upgrade enables four external 10 Gb uplinks with SFP+ connectors (SFP+
     transceivers or DAC cables are not included). This upgrade requires the base switch.

My two cents to necro posting
1. you can verify your licenses

2 licenses need properly installed on switch

IBMBaldeNetwork(config)#show software-key
Enabled FoD Key(s):
  none

Active FoD Key(s):
  none

Non-Reusable Demo License(s):
  none

NOTE: A reboot is required to make an Enabled Key become the Active Key (when different).

2. IN ESXI on vmnic you can use 1Gb explicit
2.1 Use auto-negotiation and after installed key and reboot, ESXI must auto-negotiation 10Gb speed between vmnic and internal port

sorry for eng. not my native
