Configure NPIV FSM-p260-VIO
« on: May 30, 2014, 01:35:39 PM »
hi guys

We have a VIO running on a p260, latest VIO version. We have an IBMi LPAR running.
Now we want to install 1 more AIX LPAR and it will be installed using a restore from tape.

So we were asked to use NPIV to generate virtual WWNS and map these to the WWNs from tape in order to boot from them and install AIX.

Now a coworker told me I need to create the virtual adapters first for VIO and after that associate them to the LPAR.
So created two Virtual Fabric Adapters (VIO ->Manage Profile)
and did the same for this LPAR -> 2 Virtual Fabric Adapters. LPAR -> Manage Profile

I did that but I don't see the Virtual Adapters in VIO
lsdev -dev vfchost*

what I see is this in the Manage Profile for the Virtua Fabric Adapters (by the way which on the pair I should see in my San Switch?)
WWPNs, Virtual adapter 1
c0507606ced60004
c0507606ced60005
WWPNs - virtual adapter 2
c0507606ced60006
c0507606ced60007

so what do I have to do? shutdown VIO and LPAR? or is it ok I don't see anything with this command lsdev -dev vfchost* (I even run cfgmgr)

An idea how to fix this?

thanks a lot guys

Karlochacon,

I sent your request to our Power Systems tech and below is what he said.

He's editing the profile and not the active partition.
At this point, do this on the vio server.

  • Manage virtual sever and add the vfc's.
  • Map them to the client partition.
  • Then from the FSM deactivate/reactivate the client partition. Not reboot. Deactivate to reread the profile

Let us know if this does it or if you still have an issue.

Thanks!!

and the same happens when I go to Manage Virtual Server for the LPAR when trying to add in Storage Adapters

Error 500: Duplicate component ID 'viewns_994846885_:manageServer_form:ManageServerVTabView:ManageVirAdapPanel:_id734' found in view.

Please ensure the slots your adding on the vio are unique

I am downloading the latest version available 1.3.1.2 and see if the Adding Virtual Adapter issue is gone

I will be applying it in like 20 minutes - reboot FSM and test
